The San Jose Earthquakes’ 2-0 win at home on Wednesday, July 12 against the Seattle Sounders, combined with San Jose’s away win 1-0 in Seattle on May 31, means that the Earthquakes win this year’s Heritage Cup competition.
According to this year’s contest rules:
For 2023 there is a balanced two-game regular season schedule between the two competing MLS teams. The Heritage Cup shall be awarded based on the results of the two matches of each participating team, with each team hosting one match, namely the May 31 match hosted by Seattle Sounders and the July 12 match hosted by San Jose Earthquakes, (Heritage Cup Matches). Three points will be awarded for a win, 1 point for a draw.
No tiebreaker was needed.
